For more than four years, Martin McGartland lived the astonishing double life of a secret agent. To the IRA, he was a trusted Intelligence Office and an integral member of an active service unit. To the British Government however, he was known only as 'Agent Carol'. Martin McGartland is credited by British Intelligence with saving the lives of at least fifty people. Every time he tipped off the authorities, he risked detection and yet, heroically and fearlessly, he continued to pass on life-saving information. Finally, his cover was blown. Martin was taken from Sinn Fein headquarters in Belfast to an IRA safehouse for questioning and almost certain execution. Though guarded by armed men, in a desperate bid for freedom, he dived from a third floor window...This breathtaking story is now a major film starring Sir Ben Kingsley and Jim Sturgess.
Review
As "Agent Carol", Martin McGartland faced down danger on a daily basis and once leapt through a third-floor window to escape a Irish republican Army (IRA) hit squad who had kidnapped him in August 1991 and who were about to murder him..
Martin saved over 50 lives and his first book, Fifty Dead Men Walking, about his story is now a major movie (albeit fiction) starring Jim Sturgess, Sir Ben Kingsley Rose McGowan. Martin has publicly disowned the film and refused to be involved in any way. He stated that; "The film is as near to the truth as earth is to Pluto. It is total fiction.".
Martin is single-handedly responsible for stopping at least 45 IRA bomb and assassination plots in the province and on the UK mainland, and he has the scars to prove it, especially after an IRA failed hit on him in June 1999 which left him with no fewer than six bullet holes in his body.
To this day MI5, British Government a Northumbria Police and Police Service of Northern Ireland continue to protect the terrorists involved in his 1991 kidnapping and his 1999 attempted murder. In fact the above are covering-up IRA involvement.
